Top 25 Photos on Flickr in 2019

The year is wrapping up, which means it’s time to highlight some of the most popular, interesting, and engaging photographs uploaded to Flickr in 2019. Ready for some inspiration?

To compile this top 25 list, we started with an algorithm that took into account several engagement metrics, like how many times the photo was viewed, faved, or commented. The selection also involved curation by Flickr staff.

Most of the top photos come from long-term community members, professional and self-taught photographers from different countries around the world with an eye for people, nature, and beautiful landscapes.

World’s Longest Art Exhibit

David Altrath presents “The Metro Series” which highlights the unique underground metro system in Stockholm, Sweden which features installations from local and non-local artists all the way back from 1957. It has become so decorated that it is now considered the longest art exhibition in the world.

Murals, statues, and other installations expand the length of the metro system, leaving nothing bland about the underground. And it’s true — the work adds spice to the system that you can not see in other stations around the world.

Matter of fact, in some cases, the stations were actually built based on the artists’ ideas.

Hitting the streets in the 2019 Urban Photo Awards

In its 10th year the Urban Photo Awards presents a wonderful collection of surreal, evocative, and occasionally spectacular images. This year’s top prize went to a beautifully strange shot the judges suggested required an unbelievable sense of timing.

The Urban Photo Awards is a relatively straightforward photography competition, fundamentally focusing on the fabric of urban life, be it big city living or a more simple rural existence. The single photo contest is split between four categories: Streets, Spaces, People and Creative. A portfolio award is also handed out to the best sequence of images that tell a story.

Tough. Bold. Badass. | Beautifully Bella

Those are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the Bella Twins over the course of their career as arguably the most famous female wrestlers ever. And the descriptions track. Nikki broke her neck in the ring, had surgery, and returned triumphantly to the WWE before retiring for good last March. And Brie’s strength was on display every time she performed their signature Bella Buster move—which involves grabbing someone by the neck and aggressively throwing them down on the mat. But those aren’t the only words that should be used to describe this duo. A few more that are just as fitting: Smart. Ambitious. Kind.

The now-retired wrestlers have always wowed crowds with their athleticism and strength. But it’s their willingness to show their most vulnerable sides that has turned them into superstars.
