The Thrill of the Chase

There’s nothing on Earth like being confronted by the fury of wild weather. With more than 20 years’ experience storm chasing across Australia, Dale Sharpe shares his tips for amazing images in the eye of the storm.

How to Capture Lightning
1. Use a tripod and set your camera to Manual (M).
2. Set your camera’s ISO to its lowest value (100 or 200).
3. An aperture between f/5.6 and f/9 will give you a good depth of field.
4. The ideal shutter speed depends on the intensity of the lightning and how far away it is, but I recommend shooting 20-30 seconds for distant lightning strikes and 5 -10 seconds for closer strikes.
5. Set your lens to manual and focus to infinity. Fire a test shot to ensure the image is sharp.
6. If your lens or camera has image stabilisation turn it off! If the camera is on a tripod it will do more harm than good.
7. If you have a remote, lock the shutter release, so the camera captures one image after another.
8. Capturing the perfect bolt is often a matter of luck so the more time your shutter release is open the better your chances.

The doors of mordor are open

Never before had I seen such a majestic eruption of a volcano and at the same time feel secure. Camping one night in the Acatenango Volcano and having a volcano as active as the Fire a few kilometers away, it was an incomparable experience, I felt trapped in the book “The Lord of the Rings” walking through Mordor. Walking for more than 5 hours with cold clothes near 3900 meters, food, 5 liters of water and a tripod, was exhausting, but each step made it worthwhile.

When we arrived at the rio tarcoles in costa rica and I saw what a fantastic formation the sharp-mouthed crocodiles are, I could not help myself, I started my drone and begun to photograph them from the air. My heart was beating like crazy because I was incredibly excited, on the one hand I was a bit scared for the drone, on the other hand I was so happy about the unique moment.

Kern’s photography is firmly rooted in presenting the human affect on the landscape and an inquisitive exploration of humanity through man’s relationship with domestic animals.

“Kern’s evocation of nature as a device to understand his own sense of self draws upon historical precedence: the use of animals as metaphor and the pastoral tradition. yet the artist’s broad concept—his exploration of identity—is firmly grounded in a contemporary context. This tightly knit series of images, which together characterize the author, is common to our age of social media. Kern’s aesthetic, however, emphasizes clarity and projects a warm stillness that is a balm to an overstimulate society. It’s About Soul with Chef Todd Richards

We’re always excited to be introduced to a number of creatives across verticals here at Athleisure Mag. A few weeks ago, we got an advanced copy of Soul: A Chef’s Culinary Evolution in 150 Recipes and from the selected dishes, colorful imagery and the voice of Chef Todd Richards, we had to interview him for this month’s issue. He brings to life what soul food means as a genre and how it can be interpreted within its classic dishes as well as being utilized in other dishes that are not commonly thought to align with this category. Chef Richards is self-taught, passionate about educating others about the food and bringing the love and community that surrounds it.
